There are good rugby players – and then there are those that opposition teams build a game plan round trying to stop. Jamie Roberts is one of the few in the latter category.

And we are not talking club opposition here either, no lesser team than England changed their selection and game plan with that one objective in mind.

The best team in the world, the Springboks, could not contain the Man of the Series in the Lions summer tour to South Africa – if he had stayed on the pitch for all of the Second Test then we could have been looking at a series victory.

Blues and Wales co-centre Tom Shanklin knows Roberts better than most and summed him up with the simple comment, “The opposition know exactly what to expect from Jamie, but the question is whether they can stop it.”

At 6’4” and just under 17stone it is not exactly a secret what his greatest attributes are, clearly demonstrated in a Man-of-the-Match performance against Scotland which preceded England selecting Joe Worsley as openside flanker to police the Wales centre.
